Big Creek - Ontario

About The Property

ABOUT THE PROPERTY

One of North America’s Premier Waterfowl Properties

Big Creek represents an opportunity to acquire one of North America’s premier waterfowl properties. Since its founding in 1908, this historic sporting enclave has been owned by a select group of families who have shared a commitment to land stewardship & wildlife conservation. Over the years, their commitment has only been surpassed by the desire to share the great natural resources of Big Creek with their friends and family.

Positioned along Canada’s southernmost boundary, Big Creek occupies a strategic location within the Mississippi Flyway. Each autumn, beginning in October, vast flights of ducks and geese move south from Quebec and northern Ontario, following rivers and tributaries to this historic destination. Early migrants such as teal arrive first, followed by mallards, pintails, and black ducks as the season progresses. Here, birds gather in remarkable concentrations before continuing their southern journey.

Given its proximity to Detroit, Big Creek has long attracted many prominent automotive industry leaders who have either owned or been a guest at Big Creek including Henry Ford, Lee Iococca, John Delorean & Robert Fisher (the seat belt buckle inventor). Most guests agree that the Big Creek experience is unparalleled in the waterfowl world. Exceptional bird numbers, thoughtfully designed habitat, and effortless access to the blinds combine to create mornings that many hunters would describe simply as the “finest hunt of their lives!”

At the heart of Big Creek’s success is a philosophy centered on holding massive concentrations of waterfowl. For decades, management has prioritized an interior “sanctuary area” that is never hunted. Additionally, most blinds are accessed subtly from the marsh perimeter, ensuring that this central rest area remains undisturbed and continues to draw new migratory birds to the property throughout the season.

The majority of the property consists of expansive marshland, though within this marsh are a variety of well-established hunting setups. Most blinds are positioned along the fringes of the marsh in timbered pockets and coves. These locations hunt much like classic “green timber holes” where mallards decoy and naturally work down through the trees into these pockets. There are also several blinds facing larger open water areas which offer exciting opportunities for both decoying ducks and sporty pass shooting for a variety of hunting styles.

The property also benefits from two government-issued baiting licenses that allow supplemental feed to be placed within designated sanctuary areas. These carefully managed feeding zones compliment the natural forage within the marsh and help sustain higher concentrations of waterfowl throughout the season while providing critical nourishment during their long migration.

Ontario offers one of the longest migratory bird seasons in North America, with hunting extending approximately 110 days from late September through early January, preceded by a special 10-day Canada Goose season. Dove season runs from September 1 through November 15.

Big Creek is graced with two exceptional lodges, thoughtfully designed to offer an elevated standard of comfort and style. Each feature beautifully appointed bedroom suites and expansive gathering spaces, perfectly suited for intimate family escapes or sophisticated corporate entertaining. These lodges are welcome retreats during waterfowl season, and together they help transform the property into a true four-season retreat.

In the warmer months, Big Creek becomes a lakeside haven—where days are spent enjoying world-class walleye fishing on Lake Erie, relaxing along its sandy beaches, or indulging in water sports such as sailing, skiing, and wakeboarding. It’s an ideal setting to celebrate holidays with the family and is a refined escape from the southern heat.

Every element of Big Creek has been thoughtfully curated, yet it invites its next owner to shape a personal legacy and create enduring family traditions. More than a retreat, Big Creek is a rare opportunity to steward an exceptional landscape while preserving a legacy of world-class waterfowl hunting. Refined lodges, pristine grounds, and thriving habitat come together in a turnkey estate designed for both family life and entertaining.
